Moose Watcher Program

This is a safety-based Moose Watcher Program.  We welcome participation from both members and the public.

When you spot a moose...

Call our North American Moose Foundation Headquarters number (208)588-2939, email us at moose@atcnet.net or fill out and mail in the yellow moose watcher card, which members receive with their membership. Tell us the date of your sighting, the location, number of moose and any comments to share with our Moose Biologists.

Volunteers will fill in biological information provided by the moose watcher.  The North American Moose Foundation will then log the information and send it into the fish and game or other moose specialists for that particular state, province, or territory.  We will gather and share scientific information, with the public, about moose and their habitat.

The North American Moose Foundation started this program in May, 2001.  We have had calls and reports of moose all throughout the US and Canada!  The information has been helpful for moose management.

As a Moose Watcher, you are our link to learning

SAFETY FIRST!  Moose are wild animals and can be dangerous.

Moose transplants and reintroductions

The North American Moose Foundation participates in Moose transplants (especially of nuisance moose) and the reintroduction of Moose by partnering with governmental, provincial and other non-pit and/or private entities to help propagate the species and establish or re-establish Moose populations.

North American Moose Foundation's efforts will include:

Ø       Help provide volunteer workers

Ø       Seek experts to train the volunteers

Ø       Receive grant request for the planting of Moose and costs incurred to plant them

Ø       Make grants according to the North American Moose Foundation budget.
